The Ajibika Program
Program Overview
For 5 months, the Ajibika Leadership Program – Cohort 2 focuses on “Promoting Youth Participation in Governance and Decision-Making Processes.” This comprehensive program empowers youth by deepening their understanding of government planning, budgeting, and resource utilization processes. Through an accessible platform, we promote transparency in government decision-making, fostering a greater comprehension among the youth. The program also advocates for accountable governance practices via various media channels, encouraging active participation. Our initiative aims to create a future where youth voices are integral in national governance, ensuring accountability and effective leadership.
Program Activities:
1. Digital Training: Cohort members participate in in-depth digital training sessions, exploring topics such as social audit and field research, equipping them with essential skills for community research.
2. Public Lectures and Community Barazas: Engaging public lectures and community barazas provide Fellows with a platform to share knowledge and insights, fostering a culture of learning and awareness within the community.
3. Research and Social Audit: Fellows conduct comprehensive research initiatives within their communities, gathering valuable data and insights to inform their advocacy and projects.
4. City Forums: Interactive city forums serve as a hub for Fellows to discuss pressing issues, exchange valuable insights, and collaboratively brainstorm innovative solutions, encouraging active civic engagement.
5. Commissioning: Fellows actively engage in real-world projects, applying their knowledge and skills to initiate positive change within their communities. Through these projects, they drive impactful initiatives, contributing to the betterment of society.

The pressing necessity to reform governance through innovative youth leadership drives my involvement as an Ajibika Fellow. Our generation must address corruption, unemployment, and resource mismanagement in Kenyan communities using data-driven and digitally enhanced solutions.
Ajibika's comprehensive training in advanced digital skills, social audits, and field research has enabled a deep understanding of governance frameworks and the promotion of transparency in the contemporary digital landscape. We advocate for youth engagement and guarantee the inclusion of diverse perspectives through community assemblies, urban dialogues, and focused media campaigns. We are developing a framework for youth-led, ethical governance in Kenya through comprehensive research, practical project implementation, and a focus on sustainable and scalable solutions, with the aim of transforming development and inspiring future leaders across Africa.

The youths are the leaders of tomorrow they said but the time is now. The voice of young people in governance and political spaces is of great relevance. The population is made of 80% youth who can make great positive changes to impact our country. This is only possible if they know what they really want for the country. Information is power. When young people seek accurate information about governance, they will make informed decisions. They will vote in leaders who will have the goodwill of citizens at heart.
Ajibika Leadership Program has given young people the chance to be informed from the right sources. The future is luminous when the youth become actively involved in governance, public participation and holding our leaders accountable.

The political landscape in Kenya is changing, with the youth gradually occupying positions of leadership. This inevitable change will be catastrophic to our country if these new crop of leader are groomed by the current crass and selfish leaders., I as a youthful leader, I strive to ensure that this does not happen by taking part and encouraging the youth to also take part in the democratic and governance processes. Thus my drive is to see a our country become more inclusive, ensures economic prosperity for all and constitutionalism becomes entrenched.

I believe in having a better tomorrow in my country. Some of us work so hard to go abroad while the higher percentage stays in the country. Yes, we are a developing country therefore it is our obligations to make sure that our country is a fertile land where crops flourish. Having a better education system, health care system and a better government whose leaders are not just educated but actually learned.
With the fresh perspective that we youths have, I believe we are going to have a better country because at the end of the day, east or west home is the best.
Joy Bii
In my community, I have witnessed people repeatedly elect leaders who fail to effectively represent our interests in the tea industry, where poor leadership has directly impacted our bonuses and livelihoods. This has fueled my passion for educating my fellow community members on the importance of making informed decisions during elections, as well as understanding the policies that affect us. This will help them learn how to raise their concerns through the proper channel and also make their voices heard.

My interest for youth and governance is driven by the fact that governance issues affect me directly. Considering I'm a youth I have more years ahead to live I have to take initiative and get involved in governance issues.
To get involved I have to understand government well so that I can do it according to the supreme law of Kenya. That is why I would like to understand my role in governance. Youth participation also has opportunities which I'd never want to miss.
Sylvester Adhaya
